Terms of use

Who we are

Skiff is operated by SURPCODE LIMITED, trading as BoatSmart HQ. These terms govern your use of the Skiff apps, the website at skiff.boatsmarthq.com, and related services. By creating an account or using Skiff, you agree to them.

The service

Skiff helps you look after a vessel: guided check-ups, a history of reports and photos, reminders, and a way to send work to a maintainer. Features depend on the plan you are on. We may change, add, or retire features as the product grows.

Accounts

You need an account to use Skiff. Keep your login details to yourself. You are responsible for activity on your account. You can delete the account from Profile in the app; that removes your vessels, inspections, photos, and messages.

Skiff is built for adult boat owners. Do not create an account if you are under 18.

Plans and billing

Deckhand is free for one boat. Paid plans (Skipper, Captain, Admiral) renew monthly until you cancel. Prices are shown in your own currency at checkout.

If you subscribe through the App Store or Google Play, payment is charged to that store account at confirmation of purchase, and the store's terms apply to billing, renewal, refunds, and cancellation. Manage or cancel in your Apple Account settings or Google Play subscription settings.

If you subscribe on the web, payment is charged through Stripe. You can change or cancel from the account portal, or from Profile in the app when your plan is a web subscription.

Annual plans, where offered, are sold on the web only. Promo codes and complimentary access may be granted or withdrawn by us.

Check-ups are not a survey

Check-up reports and photo notes support good ownership. A photo check can miss things, and neither it nor the report replaces a professional survey or the judgement of a qualified maintainer. You always make the final call about your vessel.

Photos and notes

Photos, voice notes, and written notes you add stay on your account. On paid plans, automated analysis may write a condition note on a photo. Staff may review a photo and its note to keep those notes accurate. Photos are never used in marketing and never sold. See the privacy policy for how that data is stored and deleted.

Work with maintainers

When you send a job to a maintainer, that person sees the details needed to quote and do the work, including photos you attached. Skiff is a channel for that conversation. We are not a party to the maintenance contract, and we do not guarantee a maintainer's work, price, or availability.

Acceptable use

Use Skiff for looking after vessels you are entitled to manage. Do not abuse the service, try to break it, scrape it, or upload content you do not have the right to share. We may suspend an account that harms the service or other people.

Liability

Skiff is provided as a practical aid. To the extent New Zealand law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from a missed defect, a delayed sync, a maintainer's work, or a decision you make from a report or photo note. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited, including for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page is the latest version. Continued use after a change means you accept the new terms. If a change is material, we will say so in the app or by email.
